For the sweet Amigurumi Gingerbread Man we first crochet the head, body, arms, legs and the glaze. After all the parts are sewn together we also apply some decorations.
The head of the gingerbread man we crochet from top down in spiral rounds with only double crochet stitches. Thereby the head is properly filled and stuffed. The remaining thread end is needed later to attach the head to the body.
The arms for the gingerbread man we crochet from the fingertips to the shoulders in spiral rounds with just double crochet stitches. In the front part we only put a little less filling, so we will get a nice hand palm.
The legs for the gingerbread man we crochet from the toe tips upwards in spiral rounds with only double crochet stitches. Thereby the feet are filled firmly, while the legs are filled loose, to they will be movable later.
The scarf for the gingerbread man we crochet in just 2 rows with chain stitches and double crochet stitches.
Until you finished crocheting all parts, we can make them a crocheted gingerbread man. Before you start you should necessarily put all the parts together with pins. So you can see the right positions and it´s easy to correct something.
First, we sew together the head and body with the openings facing to each other. Here you are using the long thread end from the top and work your way around to the two openings. If you´ve never done that before, the tutorial about sewing open parts together may help.
Next you can sew the arms next under the head. Either horizontally folded flat or movable with thread joints, like described in the Tutorial for Thread Joints. The legs will be folded horizontally and sewn to the middle of the bottom in one line.
The glaze sits on the head, falling to the left a little. You sew it once around with the thread end. You can embroider some glaze lines at the arms and the legs with white Darning Yarn. Finally the eyebrows will be embroidered with black embroidery thread or Darning Yarn. They are placed over the 7th and 8th round over the eyes and the inner side shows obliquely upwards.
Now you can paint some pretty red cheeks on the face of the gingerbread man using fabric or acrylic paint. Then the gingerbread man gets sewn on some buttons or beads and of course also the scarf must be tied. If you like you can give him a Crocheted Candy Cane.
Now I must congratulate you on your crochet gingerbread man and hope that you do not eat up the delicious fellow!
